The 2020 PDFL Rookie Draft is in the books. There were 48 rookie selections and 40 trades that transpired during the draft. Using the Dynasty Trade Calculator values I took a look at rookie player values and the values of each trade to calculate each owners draft grades. Here’s where things ended up:

Analysis: Aaron was the only owner to not make a single trade during the draft. Luckily, trades among other owners helped Aaron’s overall grade. The good; Ruggs was the 2nd best player and WR left on the board at 1.11 (Reagor being #1). The bad; Van Jefferson was the worst pick in the 2nd round and nearly the 3rd round. But Aaron managed to draft two worst players in Perine (D) and the only F in the 3rd round (DeeJay Dallas). I’d give this a worst draft grade if I could but somehow a few other owners managed a way to add less value through the draft. May God have mercy on your Dynasty soul Uncle…

Analysis: The good; Craig won all his trades during the draft and took the BPA at 2.3 in Higgins. 23.2 was the most value gained from trades among all owners (traper), and he obtained Mike Evans. The bad; No 1st round picks this year to help in 2020, lost a 3-down RB in Henry, and pretty thin as far as starters go. Craig is one Evans trade away from completing the full rebuild.

Analysis: The good; Dalton swindled his way into the 2nd most value in trades and drafted the highest ranked QB and WR in the process. Gaining Isaac’s 1st, Craig’s 2nd, and Garret’s 2nd in 2021 is stupid. The bad; all of us having to endure Dalton’s ‘ah-chucks-gee-gahlee’ humble PG censored gloat as he builds a great Dynasty for years to come.

Analysis: The good; Dart traded back one spot picking up extra value and drafted a great RB prospect in Dobbins at 1.9 all while intentionally fucking over his bestfriend. Dart didn’t physically assault anyone. The bad; Dart once again got away with his cheatin’ ass ways submitting two picks at 2.6, making up a drunk trade at 3.6, and missing his 4th round pick which we still let him have. #dartd

Draft Grades with Trades: B-
Analysis: Dave had a decent draft but it could have been better. The good; Dave secured CEH who is being talked up as the next Brian Westbrook and the DTC value for him is sky high. Apparently, KC had a Draft Day mentality in that they were going CEH no matter what. Literal words they used, and Patrick Mahomes was a big voice of reason going this route. I personally love the landing spot but CEH is such a poor prospect compared to the other RB’s taken after him. The good; Dave has plenty of time to cash out on CEH before he realizes Damien Williams still has control of that backfield and CEH was an over drafted RB (ala Rashaad Penny). Dave flipped Breida for nice value and secured his own 1st next year, and Dustin’s 2nd in 2021. The bad; Dave passed on Jalen Reagor at 2.1.

Analysis: It’s a harsh grade but that’s how it compares to everyone else. Dustin drafted the 3rd least amount of value in terms of DTC values. He also lost the 2nd most value in draft day trades. The good; Dustin landed two underrated RB’s in Vaughn and Gibson (MFL is updating both Gibson and Bowden to RB). I was targeting them myself but Dustin took them a little too early for me. Pittman lands in a wide open depth chart in Indy. Adding future draft capital was nice as well: Isaac’s 2021 2nd and 2022 1st. The bad; Dustin traded away Davante Adams for a terribly low price! Nuk and Tyreek are still great, but now Dustin turns to rookie receiver Pittman and guys like Anthony Miller, Breshad Perriman, Josh Reynolds, and some tight ends to pick up the slack.

Analysis: Great drafting G-money! I never really knew what the plan was at 1.2 but I loved it. I had thought it was between Herbert or CeeDee but you ended up getting both! The good; Garret added Matt Ryan and 1.7 to trade out of 1.2 which may have been the best trade of the weekend (other than Adams because wtf was Dustin thinking). Scary QB situation suddenly turns into a nice QB situation. The bad; I don’t think he needed to trade a 2021 2nd to move up two spots to grab CeeDee. And he should have taken a RB at 1.5 but only time will tell. Garret also allowed Dart to take advantage him at 1.8. JT going to Indy hurts Mack’s value, but G may get enough out of him as a RB3 to still be pretty competitive this year.

Analysis: Isaac, what can I say… you did some good and you did some bad. The good; Isaac smoked Dustin in a trade to obtain Adams and he drafted one of the good RB’s in Swift at 1.7. Eason at 3.5 was a great pick. The bad; Isaac had to trade his own 2021 1st and 1.10 to draft Swift. Swift’s profile as the “good at everything but not great at anything” fits perfectly with Detroit. Sharing carries with KJ will certainly bring headaches each week. Despite the good and the bad I’m optimistic that Isaac finish in the 3-5 zone right in the money. #jinxed

Analysis: Sorry Joe. Tough to have a good draft grade when you were coming into the draft with only the 3.1. The good; Joey didn’t lose any important pieces and he added Tevin Coleman and Corey Davis. The bad; Joey didn’t add any important pieces and he drafted a tight end. If 2020 starts out a little rocky I could see Joey flipping Julio and Fournette for 20201 picks. Joe’s success really hinges on Cam finding a starting job and Stidham winning the starting job.

Analysis: Josh was able to make a few snake-like moves again this year sniping Zack Moss and Darrynton Evans from Tee, and sniping Jake Fromm from nobody. The good; Denzel Mims at 2.4 was a solid pick and the BPA. Same with Shenault but we’ll see how he’s developed. I saw a lot of gadget-man Cordarrelle Patterson out of him but he’s with Jay Gruden who will find ways to get him the ball. The bad; Josh trading away two future 2nds and a future 1st for Haskins and McLaurin. I can see Josh being in that 3rd to 8th place range. When Winston takes over for Bree’s Josh is in the money.

Analysis: Duh you losers! Of course I had the best draft. I drafted the most value with my rookie picks and didn’t trape any owners like Dalton did. What a dick. The good; I drafted the highest valued players in the 2nd and 3rd round and nearly the 1st round (Burrow 33.0 – Taylor 31.7). The bad; I controversially took Cam Akers at 1.4 over Tua, CEH, and Dobbins. Mainly because he’s historically young, an elite recruit out of high school, joins only Warrick Dunn and Dalvin cook to rush for multiple 1,000-yard seasons at FSU, crushed the combine, and ended up being Gurley’s replacement. It’ll be interesting to look back on this and see how things played out. I can only assume Akers will tear his ACL on the first day of training camp and this pick haunts me in our new league for 8-10 years.

Analysis: Tee has the most Tee draft in history. What a perfect ending to this writeup. The good; if you can follow – Tee landed Tua, Aiyuk, Claypook, Hurts, Kelley, and Asiasi. Solid draft picks Tee! The bad; Tee won 3 of his 11 trades leading the league in value lost due to trades. This could still be in the ‘the good’ category since Tee is a very willing trader and does a great job in finding fair value for both owners unlike Dalton. What a dick. I have Tee finishing the year (with this team) in the 8th to 9th zone, but that won’t happen and he won’t have any of these players anyway. Good or bad, Tee is the most active and fun owner in the league. Nothing’s off the table. Now, if he truly wants to become the best commissioner in Dynasty League history lets talk some Devy!
